Growing up I was active and ate what I observed most other kids ate. I was a heavier kid, and my energy and concentration were not great. I had trouble sitting up straight in class and focusing on tasks. I didn’t feel like I was doing anything different to anyone else. I wondered why I responded in this way, while others seemed to be going along just fine. I started to be quite hard on myself. From the messages around me I thought I must be lazy, not disciplined enough and not strong enough. I went through cycles of deprivation and binging with food.
In my teenage years, I had some health concerns, and the way it was managed did not seem complete.
As a result of all of these experiences, I wanted to learn about how the body works to learn about myself. I wanted to understand how things worked, how I could build a positive relationship with food, and feel well.
Studying Naturopathy allowed me to do this, and being a naturopath allows me to assist in helping others know how they can support their health, as well as have a positive relationship with food. Helping people improve their relationship with food and understand how their body works to improve their health and sense of wellbeing brings me a lot of joy.
There are a lot of messages out there about health, food, size and what it means to be healthy. My desire is to offer some clarity around this information. I do not have or believe there is a perfect way of eating. I do not think there is a perfect size to be. There are some fundamentals about the type and quality of food that most people benefit from, and there is also a big component on how we interact with food from a psychological level. What I’m interested in is sharing this fundamental knowledge and then with that information, people can discover what works best for themselves.
